The editing process
Finally, we're editing together again! Samuel and I were really looking forward to working together. But this editing process turned out to be more difficult than we thought. How do you do justice to people with multiple disabilities, how do you tell the US situation as a subplot, and how can you take people's life stories seriously while still distinguishing them from the concept of “flight”? Once again, I learned how important it is to have reflective journalism. Thank you, Sami, for your expertise!
The story
With the return of US President Donald Trump to the White House, concerns about democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights are growing in the United States. Women's rights are being restricted, minorities are coming under pressure, and research funding is being cut. Some US citizens are drawing conclusions—and leaving the country. Some of them have arrived in Austria. In this episode, “betrifft: uns” explores why US citizens are emigrating to Austria of all places. It meets people who have left their country because of Donald Trump and his policies. (Text: on.orf.at)
