The editing process

I would describe my collaboration with Ajda as picking flowers from within. Because it is a pleasure to work with a sharp-witted creator. The reportage was well planned and was still allowed to be completely rearranged in the edit.

The story

Ten years ago, they arrived at Westbahnhof: Refugees - mostly from Syria and Afghanistan - were greeted with applause. Around 90,000 people applied for asylum here at the time. Among them were 30,000 children. The welcoming culture was palpable for the refugees. The pictures went around the world.

10 years later, many people in Austria are skeptical as to whether integration has worked at all. This is also linked to the reports of juvenile delinquency. But what actually happened to the children and young people who fled to Austria back then? Did they arrive well in Austria or not? Did they find their place in Austrian society, in the education system and on the labor market? Or did their integration fail? Ajda Sticker got to the bottom of these questions in her report.
