“I think we have to go there,” I say to my companion on the way to the film presentation as we leave the highway and catch a glimpse of Eisenstadt. It was the first time I hadn't seen the impressive building on screen and now I understood the sentence “This building characterizes the cityscape of Eisenstadt” in a completely different way. Even though I felt like I got to know every corner of this building during the editing process. It was a special moment for me to stand in front of it for the first time and celebrate the completion of the film in this venerable building.

The story

The Martin Barracks, which have dominated the cityscape of Eisenstadt since its opening in 1858, have played an important role not only as a military training facility, but also as the home of the Burgenland Military Command and as a landmark in Austrian military history. The film, which shows both the historical architecture and the many facets of the use and conversion of the barracks, was created with the active support of numerous historians from both the civilian and military sectors. These experts helped to document the history of the barracks in a comprehensive and multifaceted way and ensured that the film provides a broad, historically sound picture.

The film portrays the Martin Barracks as a place where not only military history was written, but also a place where cultural and architectural values are preserved and maintained. Under the direction of Kovács, the film became an impressive document of the historical significance of the building and the dedicated work of those who are committed to preserving this heritage.
